Works fine unless the FS is not yet mounted…. Otherwise use “file”:
[myuser@myserver ~]$ sudo file -sL /dev/sdb1 /dev/sdb1: SGI XFS filesystem data (blksz 4096, inosz 256, v2 dirs)
